Welcome to Mrs. Jackson's Class

About My Class: This class conforms to an introductory college level course in language and composition while fulfilling the BEP requirements for eleventh-grade English. The course includes a survey of American literature with emphasis on language and rhetoric. Students are offered the choice of taking the AP Exam in Language and Composition.

Events and Announcements
Starting 2/10/04, I will be conducting after school help sessions for those students who are taking the AP exam. These will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays until the test. The sessions will last approximately 30-40 minutes and will cover course- related readings, examination of rhetorical devices, techniques, and strategies, and analysis of texts for the AP exam. Students who commit to take the test must attend a minimum of eight (8) sessions.

We are currently reading When Heaven and Earth Changed Places in third period and The Things They Carried in second period. These two books are covered in conjunction with our study of the Vietnam War and the literature that came out of the U.S. involvement.

I hope to conduct a parent-student "book talk" when parent volunteers have read When Heaven and Earth Changed Places by Le Ly Haslip.

In the News
In the next few days, I will be sending home a permission form for you and your parents concerning the use of your pictures or work on the internet. Please get these back as soon as possible, so I can begin to recognize you on my site in various ways.

Also, there is a place on here where you can contact me about assignments, etc. This is not a forum for personal issues, so please do not abuse it. If you have legitimate questions or concerns about class-related material, let me know, and I will respond as quickly as possible. I will try to check it everyday, but you know how that goes!!!!:)
